DASHA FERRER

ARTIST BIO:

Over the course of her career, Dasha Ferrer has created contemporary works of art employing various mediums that encompass acrylic paintings, photography, sculpture, and installations. Born in Novosibirsk, Russia, she emigrated to the US with her family in the mid-late 90’s. She was raised in a lower-middle class family where she was availed basic mediums for the beginnings of her creative journey. Artistically inclined with an aptitude for design from a young age, she filled her childhood days with floral arrangement, construction paper crafts, and self-portraits. She is currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area to finish her studies in Studio Art at CSU East Bay. Par for Bay Area living, she transitively creates her pieces where space can be afforded in her bedroom or garage.

For Ferrer, the most crucial component of each work that she creates is how it evokes a free, emotional, and stimulating dialogue with the observer. This concern for fostering dialogue can be seen in her Untitled (ceramic chain links in vessels), which juxtaposes fluidity with what is conventionally otherwise construed as rigid forms, or her plaster piece Untitled, which appears plainly at first, but yields an evocatively textured landscape upon closer observation.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

My semester has been an exercise in finding my own sense of style and expression in the art space.  Throughout my self-study and introspection, I’ve found myself as a contemporary artist embracing mediums in photography, sculpture, painting, and ceramics to present to my current compendium. Inspired by mesmerizing tactile forms that can be achieved with plaster, each body of work developed naturally into its own creative process -embracing neutral palettes with bursts of color and evocative textures.

I enjoy creating pieces that harmonize with a living space in their own way while portraying an intimate glimpse of my identity and who I am in this existence. It’s my desire for spectators of my pieces to experience an inexplicable sense of calm.  With viewers’ eyes allured and lingering, I hope my work evokes a familiar personal narrative where any observer feels somewhat inextricably connected to my life’s journey.
